Windows 7 Beta

Just downloaded and installed the beta-1 version of the famous Windows 7 in one of my spare PC’s.  The PC is a P4 3GHz + 1G DDR-2 RAM. The installation process was quite smooth and fast. All the hardware and peripherals could be identified and installed with suitable drivers automatically. The feeling was good.

So far I have only installed a few of other applications including Office 2007, Firefox and iTunes.

I tried the Office 2003 first but found that the Powerpoint freeze each time.

The other Office applications were quite OK. There has been no problem for Office 2007.

The FireFox 3.01 just could not be opened after its first start-up. I tried the 2.0 version and it was OK. I am not sure whether it would be shut down later. Will see.

Although there is only 1 G RAM, the responses of the OS and the apps were quite fast.

My impression for Windows 7 is “so far so good”. Will test it further and share my findings here.

Windows 7 can also run on a Mac using Boot Camp, according to this article:

Paul, Windows 7 can also be installed in a separate partition on the same harddisk of your current OS, if you can spare some space there.
